40th Anniversary of True Life in God

We give thanks to God for 40 years of the great gift from His Sacred Heart:  The True Life in God Messages, given to us through His chosen instrument, Vassula Rydén.

We are grateful to Jesus for granting each of us who read these Messages the grace to grow daily in intimacy with God—by replacing Vassula’s name with our own.

Thank You, Jesus! And thank you, Vassula!

“I discovered the Messages in 2007 while investigating miraculous phenomena in religious settings after an experience I encountered at a non-denominational church.  I ran across stories of the saints and read about the Catholic Church's beliefs. This was also when I found the Messages.  I could feel in my spirit that God was truly speaking.  I found a prayer group in 2008 and have been reading the Messages ever since.  They instilled in me a desire for the sacraments, especially the Eucharist, so I converted in 2010.  My husband and I began reading the Messages together a few years ago, and he followed me into the Church in 2023.

“I came across the TLIG Message Book 5 in my church bookstore in 1998. As I began to read, it was clear to me that I was “hearing” the voice of Jesus speaking to me through the Messages. At some point my mind and heart were changed from reading about Divine intimacy to actually experiencing the sense of being with Jesus as I was reading. My heart was healed, and I could begin to feel loved by God and could feel familial love for others. I felt such joy and I wanted everyone to have that joy of being with Jesus.

My hope for TLIG in 40 years is that True Life in God will  be shared in Christian churches. That there would be churches and priests dedicated to preaching and teaching from the True Life in God messages. “I was introduced to the Messages of TLIG when my good friend, Sr Mary Kay, of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary, who lent me the TLIG Vol. 1, of the handwritten books. I was very much open to the truth of the Messages, as the Word of God, as I read other readings.  Even though I was raised Catholic, and in ongoing spiritual formation, as an Associate of the Holy Names of Jesus and Congregation, the Messages opened a whole new world of knowledge and intimacy with our Lord Jesus. The validity, to my mind, of the Messages was affirmed years later, when I received a phone call from an Orthodox gentleman, who invited Jim and I to join a TLIG prayer group, hosted by five of our Holy Names Sisters at their Spokane Convent! “TLIG has meaning for me because of the wonderful ladies I met years ago at Saint Bernard’s Church. They invited me to join a group that prayed the Rosary, and at that time—when I was returning to the faith—I was eager to learn more about Mother Mary’s intervention in my life. We met weekly in each other’s homes, shared our lives, enjoyed delicious snacks, prayed the Rosary together, and read the TLIG Messages from Vassula. Although those Messages became personal to me, what became even more meaningful were the women themselves. What speaks the loudest to me is their love. No matter how long I’m away because of life’s busyness, they never treat me as if I’ve dropped out. Instead, they welcomed me back wholeheartedly, without hesitation. Now we meet on Monday evenings over Zoom, and whenever I rejoin, we pick up right where we left off: sharing our prayer intentions, praying the Rosary, and reading TLIG Messages together. “I first encountered the TLIG Messages in 2005 while perusing the books left at the back of our perpetual adoration chapel in Tulsa, OK.  The book that caught my eye had four pages of handwritten messages per page.  I was fascinated by the hieratic handwriting.  While reading, it was absolutely clear to me that I was reading a transcript of a conversation with God.  I recognized the voice of Jesus.  I read half of the book and set it aside.  Ten years later I met the owner of that book, Kathie Jackson, at an ACTS retreat.  She invited me to her Monday TLIG prayer group meeting.  Within four days I was riding with Kathie and Judy Timms to a national TLIG retreat in Chicago, where I bought every book being sold there.  I've been hooked on TLIG ever since, attending national and international retreats.  My TLIG group now meets every Monday night on Zoom.  I hope that in the next 40 years we will have a bishop in our diocese who will 1) accept the books, 2) read them, 3) fall in love with the Messages, 4) allow us to promote the Message in our diocese, and 5) encourage priests, deacons, and lay people to witness in our churches throughout the diocese.  My dream is that the TLIG Messages will be honored in every church.”--Debbie Durkee, M.L.S., M.Div. /TLIG Midwest South Region - USA
